Reality Check: City Employee Sentenced
For Producing Fraudulent Birth Certificates

This is an update to a story that was reported late last year involving a phony birth certificate scheme.

Bergen Dispatch reports:

Former Newark City Hall Employee Sentenced to Three Years' Probation for Producing fraudulent birth certificates
Cooke was previously employed by the City of Newark at its Office of Vital Statistics and was responsible for issuing official New Jersey birth certificates. From August 2013 to October 2013, Cooke produced four fraudulent New Jersey birth certificates using four different individuals’ personal identifying information, which Cooke had acquired from a conspirator. After producing the fraudulent New Jersey birth certificates, Cooke gave the documents to his conspirator, who subsequently sold them. [...] Bergen Dispatch. h/t D.

Cooke was also ordered to spend six months in a halfway house. He initially faced up to 15 years in prison.

Seems like a pretty light sentence for forging four different government-issued birth certificates.

As CDR Kerchner (Ret.) previously pointed out:

There have been many other cases of birth certificate forgery and fraud conducted by government employees over the decades. Events in Hudson County NJ come to mind. Puerto Rico having to reissue all of its birth certificates due to massive forgery and fraud in that commonwealth. Obama's forgery is one of many.
